| Dr. Joel Orr |
|
Dr. Joel Orr is Chief Visionary and Vice-President of Cyon Research Corporation, a leading consulting and publishing firm. His 30 years of helping engineering professionals deal with computers at the strategic level have worn the edge off his PhD in math, and he no longer proves theorems-although he still waves his hands quite a bit. He has been an Autodesk Distinguished Fellow and a Bentley Engineering Laureate, and has received numerous industry awards. His book, "The Dandelion Principle: Structuring for Greatness," is due out March 15 (www.dandelionprinciple.com).
Simulation is what CAD becomes when it grows up. It is "the end" of CAD in the sense that it is what happens when CAD has fully matured, and also in the sense of "the goal" of CAD. Whether you are a user or a vendor of MCAD, you need to understand where it is going. Dr. Orr will address:
- What designers don't like to talk about
- What designers don't like to do
- What all creative processes have in common
- The proper role of computers in design
- Simulation means you don't have to really understand it
- Out of your head: Knowledge management
- Take-aways: 7 points to make things better when you get back to work
